| Introduction | I was in a bookstore just yesterday, reading about a band whose music I love and fear at the same time. Love it because it seems to recognize the aching and melancholy and tenderness and triumph that I've experienced. Fear it because its haunting melodies can hold me in a familiar isolation. And I know that isolation, unlike solitude, is life-draining. Solitude stills me, connection engages me and isolation wastes me. But, what I realized as I was reading this book was: I want to tell my stories. I feel I almost need to. The only stories worth telling are the ones that have mattered the most to me and that are told with uncompromising honesty. There'll be no euphemistic or prudent editions. I hope that people, lots of people, will connect with them. I want to make a significant impact on people's lives. I think I'll tell my stories through my music, pictures, poetry and other forms of writing. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |
