| Introduction | I once read a book about 1950s pop-culture and design by Thomas Hine titled "Populuxe". The main idea behind the book, and the title, was that the postwar period was a time when exciting design innovation were being created with the general public as an audience. "Popular luxury" may sound like an oxymoron, and indeed much of what we remember of that period is categorized as kitsch. This blog isn't specific to only the 1950s, but a collection of examples of typography that embrace the "luxe" philosophy. |
