| Interests | Writer and publisher of resources for teachers of boys at primary and secondary schools in Australia and beyond. INTRODUCING Dr AUDEN Dr Auden's research over recent years has been into issues surrounding boys’ education. This has become a hot issue in Australia and his work has been popular with schools here and abroad. As an educator with a passion for improving the relevance of education for our students, Michael's input into his publications involves a modern and realistic approach to what is possible in a modern schooling situation. He approaches his writing and material development from a realistic viewpoint which sees educational progress by increments rather than by revolution. Teachers and leaders often comment on the matter-of-fact style and ideas that his books offer them. These ideas are digestible and useful in a classroom context. PAST EXPERIENCE Michael began his teaching career as a High School teacher in inner Melbourne in 1974. He moved to Hobart, Tasmania to take up the position of Director of the Tasmanian Environment Centre. During the next two years he created many useful resources for schools. In the late 70's Michael was appointed to develop a field study centre on Bruny Island off the South East Tasmania coast. Returning to Melbourne with his young family Michael accepted a position at Haileybury College for six years as a geography and science teacher. He enjoyed the robust interaction with the boys in his classes. For the past twenty years Michael has been director of a series of educational consulting and publishing businesses. During this time he has toured Australia and the UK with his highly successful school leadership seminars. For the past decade Dr Auden has been a prominent consultant on school marketing strategies. His current focus is in the field of creating relevant and effective strategies for schools to engage boys in meaningful schooling and education. |
