Introduction Me and Nizar might as well have come from different planets. He spoke Arabic, and I spoke English, yet somehow we managed. I barely knew anything about life in Palestine when I was growing up in Ohio. Because of fate and divine intervention, I met Nizar when he was a ten-year-old boy. He was brought to the US by my brother and myself when we were trying to start an organization without knowing what we were doing. We were stumbling through it. My brother sent me a video of Nizar and I fell in love with this beautiful child. We brought him to the US for treatment from Shriner's Hospital in L.A. The host family we found for him did not work out and we needed to do something quick. We rented an apartment in Koreatown near Shriner's Hospital, where Nizar and I lived for almost a year while he received prosthetic legs. Coincidentally, we lived in one of the worst neighborhoods hit by the Rodney King riots. It was traumatic for me when Nizar had to go back home. We now keep in touch through messenger, he sends me videos of his new baby born in the summer of 2020. Join me to learn about Nizar's life today and his life of struggles and joy.
