| Introduction | I like to stay busy. When I’m at home I enjoy doing yard work, and get great pleasure from tending my small garden. I also enjoy doing small summer projects. Last summer, with the help of one of my good carpenter friends, we built an out-building on the back of my garage. I had a small concrete pad on the back of my garage. I told him that I had an idea for a small building out back. We looked at it, drew a design of it on a sheet of notebook paper, made a material list, and completed the project in less than 3 weeks (I bet I made a dozen trips to Lowes in the process). As a geometry teacher, it was very fulfilling to put many of the theorems that I teach in the classroom into a hands-on construction project like that. I think it made me a better teacher. My real love is fishing, especially for bass. When you trick a bass in to hitting an artificial lure, there is no greater thrill. If you have never fished with a lure before, you can not appreciate how much skill is required to be successful at it. If you do it right, you need to be a biologist, a meteorologist, and an artist. I guess you could say that fishing is an art and a science. |
