| Introduction | Richard D. Rands was a computer hardware and software executive before becoming a professional genealogist. He earned a bachelor's degree and an MBA from the University of California Berkeley. With a lifetime interest in family history -- and interesting histories to explore in his own family -- he later received an advanced degree from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies through the University of Toronto. He currently teaches genealogy classes and serves as president of the Silicon Valley Computer Genealogy Group, a nonprofit that has been serving genealogy enthusiasts in the Bay Area of northern California for more than 26 years. His business, Brute Force Genealogy LLC, represents an attitude toward research. If getting to the root of a research question means he need to "brute force it," he'll dig through page after page of original records, or whatever else it takes. He believes in following a high standard for genealogical proof, documenting findings as he goes, keeping careful records, building accurate personal databases, and helping you find the most appropriate ways to share your ancestry with others. |
