| Introduction | My name is Kris. I am currently a graduate student and a full-time middle school teacher. I am completing my Master of Education in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership at the University of Regina, and I am in my final semester, with plans to graduate this June. Through this program, my goal is to deepen my understanding of leadership and strengthen the skills needed to navigate the increasingly complex roles educators take on in today’s academic environments. Alongside my studies, I recently began working as a full-time middle school teacher in Omaha, Nebraska. Balancing full-time teaching while completing graduate studies certainly comes with its challenges, but it has also created valuable opportunities for growth. Being able to immediately apply what I am learning in my program to my classroom and school community has made the experience especially meaningful. Prior to my current role, I spent nine years working in Macao and two years in Hong Kong in various educational capacities. Those experiences greatly shaped my perspective on teaching and learning. | Interests | Outside of work, I spend a lot of my time doing things that help me recharge and stay grounded. I love hiking—it’s one of the most refreshing ways for me to clear my mind and just be present. Being outdoors always helps me reset. I also really enjoy traveling. Going to new and unfamiliar places pushes me to reflect on life, both personally and professionally. There’s something about being out of my comfort zone that helps me grow and see things differently. Photography is another passion of mine. I like capturing moments from my travels and pairing them with journaling, using photos and words together to remember experiences and reflect on them later. |
