| Introduction | I don't remember a time when I wasn't completely enthralled with food and eating. My mother tells me that as a baby, I'd sit in my high chair eating peaches with the juice running all the way down my arms. Today, I'm usually a much neater diner, but the idea remains the same. I prepare and eat things that I like, with disregard for what others might think. My job in the test kitchen at a bakeward and cake decorating compan lets me create unique and easy new recipes that appear in a variety of places, including a variety of media and on cookware and bakeware labels. I get to play with new kitchen gadgets a lot too, which is fun, educational, and sometimes messy. Before this, I spent several years as a Cake Designer and Pastry Assistant in shops around Chicago. I’ve never been a particularly artistic person, but decorating cakes feels natural to me. It makes sense to add beautiful details to a delicious cake, and for it to be enjoyed for its appearance and its flavor. I still do cakes for weddings and birthdays by special request, and I love that in some small way, I’ve been a positive part of hundreds of celebrations. |
