| Introduction | In 1789 a summer home was built for local Quaker, Judge William Lewis. This and the other summer estates built along the Schuylkill River were bursting with social activity. Joseph Hemphill hosted an event in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette in our Ballroom at which Daniel Webster was in attendance. After the Fairmount Park Commision purchased the land in the 1860s, it served as a restaurant for many years. In 1931, Philadelphia's own Automat Magnate Joseph Horn generously contributed the money necessary for the renovation of the house, with a special request that it stay a place of hospitality. We wish to continue the rich history of hosting in this beautiful place. Strawberry Mansion is one of several historic homes located in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA. We are in a unique position to provide tailor-fit adventures to small groups of young and old alike at a very low cost. Please take a look at some of the indoor or outdoor adventures that may be in store for you and your friends, students, scout troop, or moms' group! |
