| Introduction | A graduate of Wingate, class of 1964 when it was a Junior College. I grew and learned a lot in those two years. I loved Wingate and especially those wonderful teachers who had a profound effect on my life. I finished my undergraduate work at Appalachian and did graduate work at South Carolina and UNC-C. I taught Junior High Science, Math and Social Studies for 31 years, retiring in 1997. In 1969 I married Judy Edwards from....Wingate, NC 28174. Judy also attended Wingate. She has been employed in University Advancement and Development at Wingate since 1996 and is the longest serving member of that department. We have lived in Wingate all of our married life. We raised two wonderful girls right here in Wingate; Shannon (UNC-G) and Merry (WU class of 2001) My passion for WU Athletics came about with the construction of Irwin Belk Stadium which is quite literally in my backyard. Prior to that I had attended a few football and basketball games but didn't feel a connection to the teams. Getting to know some of the coaches and athletes at WU gave me reason to want to see them succeed. |
