| Introduction | This blog started with my artsbiz course saying ""be out there"" I don't know what I'm doing so decided to blog as I got started and learnt. THAT was in Aug 2008. Now in Sept 09, to date I had been too busy to learn anymore as I was working very hard on producing 12 large pieces of art for my first solo exhibition. I'm a Textile and Mixed Media Artist creating art in a light-filled studio on the out-skirts of Ngaruawahia in the Waikato, NZ. I'm married to John and have a 17yld daughter, Rachel. I've always loved art and craft but have only just recently started creating my own pieces of art. I started with quilting but found it hard to follow a pattern without wanting to add my own variations. So I start with fabric and then add anything else that will finish a piece; paint, dye, fibre, glue, beads, buttons and wire. No rules, if it works for me I use it. The current trend of recycling allowes me to follow my love of creating with pre-loved items such as material, clothing and jewellery. These are hidden treasures and I enjoy using various techniques to give them new life as art. |
