| Introduction | Somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon there lies a little patch of land, covered in wild blackberry bushes. I call it "The Brambles". If you saw this place during the winter you would think, "Why don't they clear that thorny brush and plant something useful?" Ah, but wait...in the early summer you will see the "billions of berries" ripening, watch my three precious little berry pickers consuming more than they put in their buckets, and taste the unsurpassed sweetness of fresh blackberry pie. To me, this is a metaphor for our lives as Catholic mothers...those who see only the "thorniness" of bearing, raising, and educating children are missing out on the sublime sweetness of it all! |
