| Introduction | Gasping for breath, barefoot clad only in a snap-front duster, no purse id or phone, I sat in the drivers seat of a second car (that rquired no key to turn the ignition). It was the last day of May 2005 just before daybreak in the Goodwill parking lot, in Federal Way Washington. Classified as a fatal injury, I had a fractured larynx (which required me to breath thru a trach until 80% of my swollen vocal chords were removed by laser). Over 30 surgeries since simultaneous to 4 years of judicial procedures leading to my captor's sentencing in 2009, speak to the process of making the shift, from survive to thrive.
