Introduction	We are both very active outdoor enthusiasts and have been talking for a while about taking some time off work to travel. With Helen finishing her PhD and Ed not getting any younger we decided that it was time to stop talking and just get on and do it. It was a hard thing to resign from a perfect job. We have done a fair bit of travelling and a lot of mountaineering, but we decided that we wanted something different. We wanted to really explore a lot of different countries, but not follow the backpacker's trail. We also needed a physical challenge to keep us interested. Cycling seemed to fit the bill. The only problem is that we don't know a lot about bikes... but how hard can it be ? !
