| Introduction | I can never decide which of the Three B’s I like best. Basically, whichever one I’m listening to at the moment is my favorite. I’ve given up looking for an exact date in which the Romantic period ended and the 20th Century began. It’s not wrong to say some classical pieces stink, even if other people seem to like them. ‘The Four Seasons’ is the most overrated piece of classical music I have ever heard. Right after Terry Reilly’s ‘In C’ and basically anything by Alvin Lucier. Many people say that the Baroque period began c. 1600. This is not necessarily untrue, but I have a more detailed thought on the subject. The Renaissance period ended in 1603, when Queen Elizabeth I died, and the Baroque period started in 1607, when Monteverdi’s first opera L’Orfeo was premiered. The years in-between don’t count. Feel free to dispute any of these things I have said. |
