| Introduction | I am a fairly competent home cook, with a personal collection of over 130 cookbooks. I host a dinner party of six to ten people at my house at least once a month. I do all the menu planning and cooking for these events myself. I take cooking seriously enough that I edited a 270-plus page compilation of my family's recipes in 2009, and I periodically update it as new recipes are created. I have a Masters in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University, which concentrated in creative writing and literature. Since March 2011, I have been reviewing almost everything that I read on the Goodreads website. In February 2016, I discovered NetGalley, and have been reviewing digital advance reader copies of cookbooks for them ever since. When I review a cookbook for NetGalley, I try to test three to five recipes from the book. Sometimes this doesn't happen because the recipes are too complicated to execute on weeknights or the ingredients are too exotic to source locally. Until 15 July 2016, I was including my recipe reviews in my book reviews on Goodreads. Then I ran up against a character limitation on Goodreads, and my friends supported the idea of my writing a food blog. So I started one. |
