| Introduction | Hello, My name is Richard B Helmich and I am 69 years young. I was born in Minden, Louisiana and graduated from MHS in 1964, I have attended Louisiana Tech, University of Southern Illinois, University of Colorado. I hold a Master degree in Vocational Education. Joined the US Navy in 1966 and spent 4 tours in Viet Nam. Left the service in 1970 and returned to school, Finished school and went to work for FW Woolworth and became a manager in less than three years. In 1976 the US Navy recalled me in into active duty as I held a needed NEC. After my 6 enlistment I had 10 of service so I decided to make it a career, With and Through the US Navy I completed my Master degree, Lived in five different nations and all this raising two kids as a single parent. In 1996 I retired from Active Duty and started my life as a sailor...Kids were grown and on their own so I was foot loose and fancy free to sail where I Wanted. Found my second love in my 1967 , 31 ft classic Seafarer sailing sloop.Spent close to six years completely re-outfitting her for blue water sailing. I Have been sailing the Gulf coast and am now ready to set out on my on own to where the wind takes me. |

| Favorite movies | Far to many to list but love SiFi and adventure/Vampire movies.If it has sailing it I watch it. Loved the new Redford movie. |

| Favorite books | Again far to many to list as I have a nook with over 1800 books on it now....Try to take that library in hard or paperback book on a small sail boat. |
