| Interests | Nearly everything interests me enough to try it at least once. Stuff I really love and will continue to do until I'm a brain in a pan includes archery, ice skating, painting, hockey, drawing, writing, cooking, legend tripping, gardening, reading, writing, yoga and assuring my dog that his rights as a Canine-American have not been abbreviated. Cheese! Seriously, conservation, politics, anthropology, theatre, art, the written word, southeastern US culture, food, green issues and experiencing the world by getting people to share what it looks like from their particular vantage point. Of course, I could accomplish the same thing by simply sitting in someone's lap, but that seems rather impolite. |
| Favorite movies | Fessing up now to crap taste in movies...I like animation, quirky storytelling and eccentric characters. "Lilo and Stitch" is a desert island disc for me. I also love "Amelie", and "Ratatouille", which in some circles qualifies me for being clubbed like Nova Scotian harp seal. |
| Favorite music | My tastes are pretty catholic. Some artists who stay in permament rotation: Bela Fleck, Shakira, Joan Osborne, Neil Young, Pink Martini, Steve Earle, Cyndi Lauper, Habib Koite, Therese Sheker-Schroder, Southern Culture on the Skids, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Bachiana, Alanis Morisette, Alejandra Guzman, Edgar Meyer, Willie Nelson, The White Stripes, REM, Joan Jett, Anonymous 4...I guess your eyes are glazing over so I should stop. |
| Favorite books | Hmmm...books are like air to me. It would be hard to pick just one and say, "Yep! Here's my favorite!" I will pick up anything written by Stephen Jay Gould, Carl Sagan and Brian Fagan because they make me fall in love with the world all over again every time I read them. Edward Larson is great because his work on the intellectual heritage and academic lineage of evolutionary science keeps me astounded. Tom Stoppard, Eugene O'Neill, Aristophanes, Edward Albee and Tony Kushner all inspire me and make me want to be better than I am. I trust William Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Mark Twain, Margaret Atwood, Harlan Ellison, Angela Carter and Robertson Davies to take me to those dark, cool places where I have to go it alone. I trust Jon Stewart, Rita Mae Brown, S. J. Perlman, O. Henry, Eudora Welty, Saki, Lewis Black and Fannie Flagg to make me laugh. |
Radio wire is often used to make bird nests. What station do they listen to?
Birdland Jazz FM, of course!
