| Introduction | I'm a professional astrologer with a BA in History, in committed relationship with another man since 1994. Despite a very agnostic upbringing (post-Christian agnostic mother, secular Jewish father) , I've always gravitated towards religion. In my late teens I studied the gospels and became a Christian. In college I studied with Wiccans, but went back to the Church and spent most of my adult life as a Roman Catholic. After some study of Islam – strictly for academic and intellectual purposes -- and travels in Morocco and Turkey I made Shahadah. The Qur'an says that God made different cultures so that we could learn from each other and that there are unacknowledged prophets in all communities. Clearly we are called up on to hear different voices, celebrate diversity and leave judgment to God. My friends and family include people of many diverse religions, including atheism, and my reading of the Qur’an demands respect for all their faiths. I can only pray that what I have to say here has some value. |
