| Introduction | Ko Te Atiawa te iwi, ko Puketapu te hapū, ko Makaira Waugh tōku ingoa. I am a kaiako, artist and poet based in Taranaki. I facilitate Tā te Manawa healing and leadership retreats for Māori and Indigenous peoples (www.tatemanawa.com). The main blog here is about the sound garden (musical playground) I created for Te Ara Whānui Kura Kaupapa Māori, with the support of Tātai Aho Rau CORE Education, and Murray Kilpatrick, a friend whose workshop I used. The other, more recent blog is about my mōkihi journey down the Whanganui awa in 2018, with Jeremy Hantler. As part of Poutokomanawa collective (www.poutokomanawa.com) I develop bilingual, bicultural arts education resources for teachers such as Hā Ora (for Te Rito Toi), Aruaru mai Tawhiti/Chase across the Waves and the recently released Te Koha a Tāne, both of which are available on the Puawaiata part of the Music Education NZ Aotearoa website (www.menza.co.nz/nga-rauemi/). These beautiful resources are available in both te reo Māori and English versions from the websites above. |
