| Interests | After highschool (I was 16), I did a 4 year college to become a Paraveterinarian assistant and lived on my own. At 20 I moved back with my parents to work for 8 months to save for a trip to New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malysia and Thailand. This thrilling experience ate away a year. After returning home for only three weeks, I flew back to Airlie Beach, Australia to live and work there for 1 year. Here, at the Great Barrier Reef, I got my DiveMaster ticket. Jan '03 I was back in The Netherlands for 15 months. Moving back in with my parents (they're the best!) and working several jobs, saving enough for my next trip to Canada and the US. May '04 I left for Canada. After traveling five months I decided to live in Calgary because of a very bijzonder person. But 9 months later the road called me again, and with a new car (the Silver Spirit)I traveled around America and up to Alaska for the next two and a half years. 3 months down the Pacific coast to LA where I left her behind and backpacked + sailed down the Pacific coast of Mexico for 10 weeks. Back in Western US for 4 months to hop from Nat. park to Nat. park. A few weeks back in Canada to hook up with my holidaying parents before I left my car in Calgary to hitch to Colorado for a month stay and continue back to Mexico where I boarded the same sailboat for 6 weeks. A month in Guatemala followed and several more in the rest of Central America. In May '07 I returned to Europe for the first time in 3 years. The reason? A huge Rock 'n' Roll fest for my parents 60's birthdays, the best time our family has seen together. With a friend I hitched to Norway and back in 1 month and finally it was time to return to my 'home' who was waiting in Calgary. For 5 months I drove through the Yukon and Alaska with her. For Christmas and New Year I returned back to Europe. In the mean time I was not alone anymore. Februari '08 we took a plane to Costa Rica to start a life in the jungle. |
| Favorite movies | My dad (Henny, 60) is a farrier. In the past couple of years he built his own school, but recently he sold it and very soon he'll be retired to go exploring with my mum (Miny, 59) who is a nanny for the kids at school during their lunchbreak. My brother (Luc, 25) finished his studies as a computer-know-all, works for www.zylom.com and lives with his girlfriend, Nina, in Eindhoven, NL. |
| Favorite books | The origin of my name: On a warm sunny day a lady called Marijke was having her summer plays with her kids in the backyard. She would always make up names for her and the kids and this day she came up with a name from something that happened to be on the table, a can of green beans. The brand read 'Maria Tumar'. She picked the first two letters of each word and 'Matu' was born. Marijke liked the name so much that at an age of 27 she officially changed it and 'till this day that's how she is known. On the 10th of March 1980 a new little girl was born. Her mum and dad knew someone with a very interesting name that they loved. They thought the name was spelled M-a-t-h-u so that's what the birthcards read. It was more than 25 years later they learned about their spelling mistake... or originality. The name Mathu from a book I've looked up the description of my name and i'm surprised how much these things resemble my character: Local origin of name: "Unique and original" From the unique root name 'Mathu" Meaning: Friend of the land Emotional spectrum: Peaceful on the outside, yet churning emotions on the inside Personal integrity: Her raputation is beyond reproach Personality: To the young at hart, everything is fun Relationships: While crowds are fun, she needs her alone time Travel & leisure: A unique hobby will occupy her time Career & money: A born actress, she will find hollywood attractive!
