Introduction . I was born and raised in New Jersey suburbia, trained and educated to play my part in the world of shopping malls and SUV’s. Falling off my motorcycle rattled my brains until being a classically trained chef didn’t make sense anymore. Twenty years too late to be fashionable, I tuned in, turned on, and dropped out. Somewhere along the way I was blinded by a spark of divine confusion and lost my way. Summer tour dancing with the Grateful Dead started me spinning. The momentum tumbled and turned me until I landed in the mud of the holy land. They called it mud but it smelled, and came out of the business end of a kibbutz cow. One morning when I hadn’t slept and the coffee machine was broken, a cow spoke to me in Hebrew. It told me that the mud I was walking on was holy. So I wiped off my boots and entered Yeshiva. Ten years of studying legal codes in Aramaic qualified me to speak with Israeli cows but by then, I was married and had a whole new set of miracles to cope with. Life, the ultimate game, doesn’t come with a rule book or instruction manual. I would be lost but, thank god, I have my wife and three children to explain the more difficult miracles.
