About me

Introduction I came to this country in 1961 and moved to Reading in 1966. I worked as a bus driver for Reading Buses for many years but when my wife contracted cancer I decided to become a taxi driver. It was very important to me to be with my wife when she needed me and being a taxi driver was the only job that allowed that. My wife and I had a very nice time together and I didn’t want to let her down. I have six children and six grandchildren of whom I am very proud. I was elected to represent Battle Ward as a Labour councillor in 2008. Over the past four years I have served on the Education & Children’s Services Scrutiny Panel, the Environment Scrutiny Panel, Reading Compact, SACRE, Access Forum, Green City & Open Spaces Forum, Pensioner Working Group and Older Persons Partnership. In 2010 I was elected Mayor of Reading which was one of the proudest moments of my life. I believe very strongly that when I signed on the dotted line it was as a public servant not just as a councillor. Service to the public is the most important thing that I stand for. Together with my fellow councillors and in partnership with local people I will continue to do my best for Battle ward.
