| Introduction | Donald David Dixon Ronald O’Connor (August 28, 1925 – September 27, 2003) was a n Irish-American dancer, singer, comedian, song writer, television host, choreographer and actor who was discovered at the age of 11 performing in vaudeville with his family act The O'Connors and recieved mainstream success in the 1938 film Sing, You Sinners. His early roles came playing "the star as a child"—the younger version of the film's leading man for prologue and flashback sequences, as he did in Beau Geste (1939). His fame peaked in the 1950s after appearing in a series of 40's teen musicals in which he co-starred alternately with Gloria Jean, Peggy Ryan. In the 50's he received further success at the box office with hisFrancis the Talking Mule comedy series. His performance in the musical Singin’ in the Rain (1952), featured a vaudeville-inspired comedy solo Make 'Em Laugh, that allowed him to show off his multi-faceted virtuosity and became a film classic. O'Connor was a favorite of millions of people around the world because of the joy he brought into their lives with his performances. |
