| Introduction | My name is Michael TerLouw, and I'm an elementary art teacher who likes to learn more about his trade from watching, or hearing from, other art teachers. I have aspirations to be an illustrator as well, though I know that the competition is fierce and that the jobs are comparatively few. I do sell my art (mainly paintings and decorative objects) in bazaars and sometimes in other people's shops. As an art teacher, I think I perform fairly well, though I know for certain that there is plenty of room for improvement and new ideas in my classroom. The reason I have begun this blog is that I want to hear from others who are interested, as I am, in being a better art teacher and/or a successful (e.g. "employed") illustrator. I'm especially interested in hearing from anybody who feels intimidated by the high professionalism of their educator colleagues. All of us in this profession know that there are those art teachers who shine like the sun . . . and the rest of us. If you're a shiner, I want to hear about what you're doing. If, like me, you're one of the rest of us, feel free to commiserate! |
