Introduction Phaero, born Michael Frederick Ahmad, is an American performance artist. Known for his utilization of diverse creative mediums, Phaero’s work critically evaluates a wide spectrum of issues, ranging from human rights to pop culture. His controversial performance art installments, “Plastic Fruit for Hungry Mouths” and “Sex Me” have yielded a great deal of public discussion, culminating in the presentation of his critical discourse, “Consuming Performance Art: The Interpolation of Public Action as Counter to or Part of “Official” Public Culture.” Phaero presented this paper at the 16th annual Performance Studies International Conference for a panel of leading Performance Studies scholars. In late 2009, Phaero also established his own private record label, MFArecords. Acting as CEO and Creative Director, Phaero announced plans for an electro pop album entitled, “ARTificialSEXDRUNK.” An extension of his Performance Studies analysis, ARTificialSEXDRUNK seeks to “evaluate a society predicated on superficiality, sex and intoxication.” The album was released on iTunes in March of 2010.
