| Introduction | Jim Astrachan is a principal in Astrachan Gunst Thomas Rubin, P.C., a member of the Maryland, D.C. and Pennsylvania bars, and a national speaker on mass communications and IP topics. Jim and his partner Donna Thomas are the authors of the 6-volume legal treatise The Law of Advertising and Mass Communications, published by LexisNexis Matthew Bender. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Law, where he teaches Trademark and Unfair Competition law, and at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he teaches Copyright. Jim’s IP-related Legal ADvice column is a fixture at The Daily Record and its sister publications, where it has appeared monthly for 14 years. Among other accolades, Jim has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America® for advertising and intellectual property law – most recently in 2010. He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Maryland Bar Foundation. Jim is also a mediator. He was the president of the Advertising Association of Baltimore from 2004-2007, and is the recipient of the AAF’s Crystal Prism Award and the AAF’s Silver Medal for contributions to advertising. |
