| Introduction | It has become legendary for people to mispronounce my name "Terese" (as in Teres-trial) as "Tereeze" (as in…there is no such name). Random customer service people have been known to blurt out: "Tereeze Jungle is your *real* name?!" which I’ve confirmed, thinking their marvel for my last name alone, and too weary to correct pronunciation of the first. Then one night I awoke with the revelation that all along people have actually understood my name to be "Trees Jungle.” This was a little twist that hadn't occurred to my parents. And so in the spirit of things both understood and misunderstood, this blog marks my bemused surrender to the name that has been quietly coiled beneath the surface of my birth name. I teach art/design, don't drink enough water, play ping pong haphazardly, sometimes sleep in socks, have stolen candy from my daughter, and have too many projects on the back burner. My one grandma called me Terez. My other grandma called me "Tereska” and I love them both for that. I believe that art is magical, apples under plastic wrap are beautiful, Sangria is truth serum and my daughter is a delightful dream. |
