Introduction | I always wanted to be a teacher of young children and that is what I did before raising a family of 4 girls with my husband. But having 2 children out of 4 with disabilities changed all that. My first child, severely mentally impaired, and my youngest child Marisa having high functioning autism, changed the direction I was to take in my life goals. I've always been a very positive person, even after realizing how impaired my first born was, but by the time Marisa was born, and we realized that she had high functioning autism, I was determined to document and keep track of her progress. After 13 years of journal writing, I realized that I could possibly help someone else going through what I was going through. This lead me to write a biography of Marisa's life growing up with autism called "Finding Marisa - A Mother's Story." I know that anyone who has read my book has found it helpful, and that is why I have created this blog ... so that my daily entries would continue to be helpful to anyone who may choose to read them. |
