| Introduction | Steve and Alissa, married in 2002. Our first child, Cole, was born premature in 2004 and died two days after his birth. We adopted our oldest daughter, Clara, from China in 2005. Five days before we left to adopt her, we discovered we were expecting our second biological child. Ivy, our second daughter, was born in Feb 2006, six months after bringing Clara home from China. In 2007 we decided to grow our family through adoption again. We decided we were open to a child with special needs and began our paper chase in early 2008. In late summer 2008 our youngest daughter, Phoebe, was born. Phoebe was born with a giant congenital nevus on her leg. We decided to have it removed through tissue expansion plastic surgery during the summer of 2009. It was following this experience that we knew we wanted to adopt a child specifically with GCN. In fall of 2009 we found our son, Tianqi, on our agency's waiting child page. |
