| Introduction | John Martin, Wanganui born and bred, is 52 and since retiring in 2003 from a career in global corporate management has been involved in a wide range of local community organisations. John and his wife Brenda have always maintained their home in Wanganui, while living and working in a number of countries. Since returning permanently in 2002 they have been keen advocates of the Wanganui district. They have a son, Callum, at Victoria University and a daughter, Nicola, who is an officer in the New Zealand Army. In his spare time John teaches music and enjoys fishing the upper reaches of the Whanganui River. Brenda, who was born in Scotland and arrived in Wanganui in 1966, is a full-time student of Te Reo Maori. After polling well as runner-up in the 2004 mayoral election, John is again standing as an independent candidate to represent all residents of the Wanganui district. He is available for comment on Wanganui issues in the run up to the October 13th local body elections. |
