| Introduction | Born and raised in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, Penelope Burniske has long been inspired by the beauty of natural landscapes. From spring blossoms to autumn's golden foliage, nature proved to be her first muse. After more than fifty years of harsh New England winters, she moved to Oahu (Hawaii) with her husband, Nick, in the fall of 2002. Although she had tapped her artistic skills for community projects ranging from costumes and set designs to promotional material for theatre productions, she had never had the opportunity to concentrate upon painting techniques. Inspired by the natural landscape of the Hawaiian islands, she began experimenting with various paints, techniques, and themes. Her work, like her background, is surprisingly eclectic and dynamic, ranging from portraits to flora and fauna, ocean scenes to volcanic landscapes. |
