About me

Introduction I am a journalist, lecturer, broadcaster and author. Specialising in sport, particularly rugby union, I work for a range of organisations including BBC Radio and The Times. Other titles and websites I have written for include the Times Literary Supplement, The Guardian (London), The Independent (London), The Daily News (Durban), The Star (Johannesburg), The Rugby Paper, PA and SArugby.com. I have twice been named Sports Journalist of the Year at the EDF Energy South West Media Awards. I have worked across the globe. I am Senior Lecturer in Sports Journalism at the University of Gloucestershire, where I designed and established its BA degree in Sports Journalism. I have run the university's wider Journalism department and I deliver research papers both in the UK and overseas on media ethics and media technology. I also hold posts at the University of Brighton and Southampton Solent University. My latest books are 'Sports Journalism - The State of Play' and 'Is the BBC in Peril?'.
