About me

Location Amherst, Massachusetts, United States
Introduction I moved to Amherst in 1996. I had lived here as a child, but primarily grew up on Cape Cod. After graduating from Boston University, I moved to New Jersey, and worked in public relations in the automotive industry. I continued that work for several years after coming to Amherst. I am an active local volunteer. I’ve been delivering Meals on Wheels most weekdays since late 2003. Mine is "the walking route" which comprises two (primarily) senior apartment buildings downtown, and my delivery "wheels" are a shopping cart. Since 2005, I have been a board member of Amherst Friends for the Homeless, the group that puts on Shelter Sunday. Previously I served 5 years on the board of the Amherst Survival Center, including 2 years as board president. In late 2006, I started the news and information site inAmherst(dot)com. Recapping Select Board meetings became my niche. In 2008, I was elected to the Select Board, and began writing about that experience at StephanieOKeeffe(dot)com. My husband Jonathan is a computer programmer, and we and our pets live on Butterfield Terrace, on the edge of the UMass campus. I am a vegetarian and a passionate Red Sox fan, and I love life in our town.
