| Introduction | I did a BSc in Zoology at the University of Bristol, UK and submitted a dissertation after a 6 month project working on the rat parasitic nematode Strongyloides ratti. I then did an MSc in Parasitology also at Bristol where my thesis and project was focused on the metastrongyle nematode of canids Angiostrongylus vasorum - particularly on the relationship with its gastropod intermediate hosts. I am currently Studying for a PhD at Imperial college, funded by the Wellcome Trust on a 1+3 (MRes + PhD) course in molecular and cellular biology of infection and immunity. I have completed my MRes year now, in which I worked on laboratory research projects concerning genetic development of dendritic cells, the role of cholinergic signaling during immune responses to parasitic nematodes, and genetic adaptation of avian influenza viruses to mammals. I am currently studying for my PhD under the supervison of Professor Murray Selkirk. The working title of my project is ' The role of Cholinergic signaling in the immune response against parasitc nematodes', and I am using the rat hookworm Nippostrongylus brasiliensis as a model organisim on which to base my studies. |
