| Introduction | I teach at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA USA, in the Heinz College where I have taught for the past eight years, full time. Before that I served as Vice President of Marketing at a state-wide health care organization. I have an active life as a consultant and have many years of successfully using language to inform and persuade. |

| Favorite music | Jazz and classical music appeal most to me. I follow contemporary jazz but don't like "smooth jazz". I like music that challenges the listener and in that regard I prefer "outside" jazz and classical music, that which stretches the boundaries. |
| Favorite books | I prefer contemporary literature, especially that being written by women and Asians. Again, I prefer to be challenged in my reading. |
