Hyun
| Introduction | Currently- SF Bay Area. Before landing here, I meandered geographically and purposefully. I was nine when I first relocated, from Seoul to Denver. I spent my childhood in a small mountain town, outdoors, making wishes on falling stars. My wish: to be with my birth family again. After high school- Boulder, to find myself. It’s a cliche, but back then a combination of naivete and hope drove me to this search for the Self. Next- Denver. I concentrated less on "finding myself" and more on getting a college degree. I also began returning to Korea regularly. I willfully believed my birth family could return to how we were before my sister and I were adopted; Language was just one of the numerous obstacles. After college- Seoul. I re-learned my birth language and family history, but after a year, I had to get out of Seoul. In San Francisco, I struggled with the 9-5 life, so returned to school. I hold a master’s in Asian studies now and feel more equipped than ever before to exist in today’s world. Nevertheless, I'm still purposefully, willfully, consciously lost. |
