| Introduction | The Peace Corps Albania Gender and Development Committee (GAD) is part of a worldwide Peace Corps initiative. We work with Albanian groups to promote gender equality through all aspects of Albanian society, focusing especially on education and employment. GAD aims to generate social awareness through discussions advocating: health and nutrition, human rights, self-esteem, tolerance, and current events, as they relate to gender development. GAD encourages men and women to feel secure in their individually chosen gender roles, not those that society has assigned to them. Moreover, GAD hopes to help fight domestic violence, poverty, and gender discrimination by empowering community members of all genders through local, grassroots activities. Finally, GAD strives to sustain basic human rights through practicing gender parity in communities throughout Albania. |
