| Introduction | The name of this blog was given to us by Scott A. J. Johnson of the Low Technology Institute. We live a small town in Wisconsin in a house built in 1896. Most of our furniture and items of daily living are working antiques. We try to heat with wood as much as we can, cook on a wood cookstove during the cooler months, raise chickens, garden for at least part of our food, and use low technology for as many things as we are able. Both of us are weavers. Holin woks with wool, spinning, and knitting; Harvest works in wood and is a skilled embroiderer and crocheter. Except for rare occasions, Holin wears Victorian clothing all year, which is an experiment in itself. We are not off-grid, but we try to replicate small town life around the turn of the 19th century in an ongoing process of learning new skills and sharing them with others. |
