Introduction I had been writing columns for The Star Democrat and Sunday Star on a broad range of subjects since 1998 before starting this blog. In the 1950's, I worked evenings for a Gannett newspaper in Utica, NY, employed by day as Director of Public Relations for the Utica Division of Bendix Aviation. I opened my first public affairs office in Utica, serving political candidates and diverse community organizations. I was Director, Office of Public Information, U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in the 1960's, and Vice President for Public Affairs at Borden, Inc. in the 1970's. I have written and lectured widely on corporate social responsibility. A private pilot for more than 50 years, I formed an after-school program, "Opportunity Skyway," in 1990 to encourage minority and disadvantaged youth to seek careers in aviation. In Easton, I assisted in starting Talbot Mentors, Inc., and Character Counts! In 2004, I founded the disAbility Coalition, and in 2008 the Hugh Gregory Gallagher Motivational Theatre to dramatize real life experiences of persons with disabilities to raise public awareness and reduce stigma.
