| Introduction | Born and brought up in Mumbai, I had umpteen opportunities to sample food from all over India... well almost... and parts of the world as well. Growing up in the 80s and 90s in a middle class Gujarati household, there was no question that a girl was not taught how to cook... but when this learning became a passion, even I don't remember. The passion increased manyfold when I moved to New York... considering the easy availability of what we in India considered 'exotic' ingredients and in general, a lot of time! Though I have moved back, the passion continues. Anyone who knows me well knows that I love to cook, and more than myself, I love to cook for others. There are so many times I feel the absolute urge to share something about cooking - or food - a new technique, a substitution, with someone... and until now, I would do what I know best... pick up the phone and call one of my aunts...but now, in a manner as human as it can be, I am greedy for more! I want to share with as many avid foodies and cooks as I can and I want this process of learning to continue - transcending all barriers...mental, demographic and geographic. |
