| Introduction | I chose the blog title SSANSHIA et al. because of the many names that I am known by my family, close friends and various people that come and go in my life. To my family and close Korean friends I am known by my Korean name, and then my Christian name to which I was baptized, at age 4, was originally Crescentia, but a little spelling mistake by my parents on my first day of kindergarten resulted in over 20 years of myself being stuck with the name Grasancia. In high school I became known by the name Grace. By the time I was old enough to correct the spelling of my English name, I had begun to like the uniqueness and I had unknowingly become fond of it over the years which stopped me from changing it. However, as I started meeting overseas students at UTS, they once again had trouble calling me by my long name and began to use only the last 3 syllables; Sancia= Ssanshia. With all these names, I feel that I have different personas when I meet the different groups of people that know me as Heejung, Grasancia, Grace or Ssanshia. Like changing one’s style of clothes, I sometimes can change my image and become up to 4 different versions of myself. |
