| Introduction | Born in San Francisco, California in 1940, I have lived a fortunate life filled with many adventures from which I have learned and during which I have strived to serve others and to live simply. I am deeply grateful to be lovingly connected with four wonderful children and four grandchildren. The paper presented here in ten parts is the result of my asking myself for many years, how can I best contribute to a human civilization which seems to be headed towards self-destruction. Striving to address this question brings hope and meaning to my life. So, in a personal sense pursuing this question through thought and action is therapeutic and life-affirming. In the context of our human civilization, if my thinking and life can serve at all, I would be delighted. So, it is in that context that I offer this paper to you. Finally, as you will see in the paper, if we are to create a loving and just civilization, it will be because a sufficient number of us join together in mutually empowering, joyful, and loving ways to bring about fundamental change.
