| Introduction | I'm a vegetarin who took the long and winding road to the path I'm now on. I read Diet for a Small Planet back in the 70's and played with vegetarianism because the book caused flashbacks to the time when I was very young and my parents would take us to the local slaughterhouse to pet the animals while the folks chose our meats for the week. Once I went inside and saw the butcher wrapping chops and I made the connection...the nice piggy that I had just petted could very well end up on my dinner plate next week. But I was a kid and didn't know what to do...I did as I was told and cleaned my plate. After witnessing the evisceration of the deer that my father and grandfather shot, I vowed never to eat deer again, and I never have. I made the decision a few years ago to go all the way and have never looked back. My health is much improved and I don't have it on my conscience that many animals suffer horribly until their deaths to end up as food. Recognizing that everyone must find their own path, I hope to use this blog to inform and educate. |
