| Introduction | I was born in Hong Kong in 1948. Our family of 8 were sharing a 100 sq.m. flat with two other sizeable families. There were no bathroom / toilet facilities in the flat. Ever since I was a little child, I had the dream of having my own house when I grew up. Making money became the goal of my life. By the time I turned 21, I graduated as a top student from technical college and I was sent to the UK to be trained as a structural engineer. At the age of 25 I was elected a Chartered Structural Engineer. I then went on to do a part-time MSc degree course in Northern England. This was where I met a beautiful girl named Kim from Malaysia, whom I subsequently married at the age of 28. Soon after we got married we went back to Hong Kong to start a family and a career. By the time I turned 34, I was already an Associate of one of the top Consulting Engineering firms in Hong Kong. By then, I had my own house, a nice car, a wonderful wife and two lovely sons. My childhood dream was realised but I was not particularly satisfied with life……(to be continued) |
