| Introduction | He was born in Memphis, Tennessee with a pencil in one hand and the funny papers in the other. After drawing his way through public school, he headed for the nearest newspaper that would hire him, the Evening Times in West Memphis, Arkansas. His first cartoon’s topic focused on the weeds in the area (no joke.)Drawing local editorial cartoons was very encouraging; and he wanted additional education (and especially more money). He left for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. During this period he kept busy doing editorial cartoons for the college paper, The Arkansawyer and received more experience in the fine art of starving. |
