| Introduction | I'm the CEO of Surmang Foundation and amara: the china rural health alliance. We've had a primary care clinic in Qinghai Province, since 1992. This area is part of the ultra-poor catchment of China, where people earn less than US14¢/day. Since 2000 this clinic has treated over 120,000 patients for free, including meds. This clinic is serving a prototype for a network of rural clinics, and that project is called amara. I've lived in Beijing since 1990 with my 14 year-old daughter, Iana, my 12 year-old son Joseph my wife Wenjing, and our three dogs Bodhi, Sanggye and Snowpea. |
