InterestsI have a passion for something known by few and understood by even fewer, rolling hills of grazing livestock, fields of crops being grown, and knowing a hard day’s work in the barn strike excitement in my heart. Where might I have gained this love you may ask? I grew up on acreage in the Willamette Valley of Oregon; the most beautiful place in the country if you ever get the chance to see it when it’s not raining. I grew up showing livestock in 4-H and FFA; I became enamored with the show ring and got involved with the Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA). Through these youth activities I was able to travel across the country, learn more about agriculture, and discover how deep my passion for livestock is. I took my zeal for livestock to Linn-Benton Community College to study Animal Science and be a member of the Livestock Judging Team. This Fall, while taking several science courses, I discovered that while I love the livestock industry, I do not want to have a profession in the science portion of the field. However I did realize that my strengths were well suited for Agricultural Communications; I have always enjoyed public speaking, writing, and just communicating in general. So I decided to take a journalism class called Media and Society, and one of the assignments for this class is to create a blog and discuss specific aspects of media. Thanks to my Media and Society Course, I have taken an interest in journalism and recently began writing articles for Linn-Benton’s newspaper The Commuter; I will also be posting my articles weekly on this blog. Besides agriculture, and communications, I enjoy swimming, yoga, hanging out with friends and family, and running.
