| Introduction | Wavel Ramkalawan was drawn to politics and national affairs in his role as an Anglican priest when he shared the pain and suffering of the victims of human rights abuses. He started the underground Parti Seselwa movement with other dissidents and became the Party Leader when it was registered. He joined the National Assembly in 1993 as a proportionally elected member for the United Opposition and in 1998 became the Party’s first member to win a constituency, St Louis, directly. He was elected Leader of the Opposition after the 1998 election and confirmed as Party Leader when the party took the name Seychelles National Party. He has been the Party’ Presidential Candidate in the 1998, 2001 and 2006 elections. |
