James was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, a direct descendant of French Acadians. He is a veteran of multiple military branches and a decorated officer. His first job was stacking bricks, his second job was oil field work in the Gulf of Mexico, his third job was a US Navy Hospital Corpsman, his fourth job was going to college so he wouldn't have to do any of his previous jobs again. He is currently self employed having worked in the aerospace sector for many years.
